Dr. Giulio Ruffini is Starlab’s CEO and a Neuroelectrics founder. He graduated from UC Berkeley in Mathematics and Physics and obtained a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from UC Davis/ Los Alamos National Lab in 1995. In 2000, he and other partners founded Starlab, a company committed to the transformation of research into technologies with positive impact through interdisciplinary research and market intelligence. In 2011 he co-founded Neuroelectrics, a clinically oriented Starlab spinoff with the mission of developing a new class of medical solutions (EEG and hybrid EEG-tES systems powered by models of the brain). As the head of the Brain Modeling department in Neuroelectrics, he collaborates with several teams worldwide to develop clinical applications of multifocal transcranial current stimulation (including tDCS, tACS and tRNS), i.e., the coordinated stimulation of several brain targets or brain networks derived from neuroimaging, in the context of the H2020 FET Open Luminous project (2016-2020) – studying consciousness in the electrical brain, and as of the last year, in the ERC Synergy Galvani (galvani-lab.eu, 2020-2026) and FET Neurotwin (neurotwin.eu, 2021-2025) projects to fully develop the concept of model-driven brain stimulation in epilepsy and AD respectively.
