Karim BENNYS

Karim Bennys is a specialist in geriatric medicine and a neurogeriatrician working in the Cognitive Behavioral Neurology Unit and the Memory Resource and Research Center (CM2R) at CHU de Montpellier. He has spent most of his career in Montpellier’s memory clinic since 1998, developing recognized expertise in Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders, and currently leads the Behavioral and Neurodegenerative Diseases Unit.

As a clinician and researcher, his work focuses on the early detection of brain dysfunction using multimodal biomarkers. He has developed particular expertise in neurophysiological markers of early synaptic dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease.

In parallel, he has been structuring a neuropsychological expertise program on sports-related concussions within the CM2R, aiming to complement clinical and neuropsychological assessment with more objective biomarkers. This program integrates neurophysiological measures, notably event-related potentials such as the P300, to detect subtle cognitive alterations after concussion, particularly in young rugby players. It also explores the contribution of emerging blood biomarkers associated with neuronal injury and neuroinflammation, with the objective of improving the early diagnosis, monitoring, and management of sports-related brain injuries.
