JUAN DARIO ORTIGOZA ESCOBAR

Dr. Juan Dario Ortigoza-Escobar is the current Head of the Movement Disorder Unit of the Pediatric Neurology Department of Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona, Spain, as well as the coordinator of the Chorea and Huntington's Disease Group and the Pediatric Issues Working Group of the European Reference Network for Rare Neurological Disorders. In 2017, he was received a PhD in Medicine from the University of Barcelona for his thesis “Study of defects in thiamine transport and metabolism associated with recurrent encephalopathies in childhood “ presenting a novel biomarker for this rare neurological disorder: biotin-responsive basal ganglia disease, SLC19A3, SLC19A2, SLC25A19, and TPK1 diagnostic criteria, and reporting on the clinical, biochemical, and radiological features of the largest documented cohort of these conditions. He is also an active member of the SJD Epilepsy Research unit, led by Pr. Arzimanoglou.
