VINCENT LEUZZI

 

Vincenzo Leuzzi is a full professor of Child Neurology and Psychiatry (Department of Human Neuroscience) and head of a Unit with the same name at the University of Rome La Sapienza. The main focus of its interest has been the study of neurogenetic and neurometabolic diseases affecting children and adolescents. For over 20 years he has been coordinator of one of the biggest Italian Center for rare neurological diseases in children. He is the author and co-author of over 200 papers on peer-reviewed journals and is an active member of the international boards involved in the development of guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of PKU, neurotransmitter disorders, and other metabolic disorders of movement. 

Main research topics: PKU (neuropsychological and neuroimaging outcome of early and late treated PKU patients),  and other disorders of amino acid metabolism; creatine metabolism disorders; disorders of biogenic amine metabolism and transport; new genetic causes of movement disorders, including childhood parkinsonism; monogenic causes of intellectual disability and epileptic encephalopathies; development of new diagnostic tests for the diagnosis of neurometabolic diseases; development of new therapeutic approaches for neurometabolic and neurodegenerative diseases.
