ROBERTA CILIO Maria

 

Maria Roberta Cilio is a Professor of Pediatric Neurology at University of Louvain, School of Medicine in Brussels, Belgium. She serves as pediatric epileptologist as well as director of Neonatal Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at Saint-Luc University Hospital in Brussels. She is the former director of Pediatric Epilepsy Research and director of Neonatal Neuromonitoring at the Benioff Children’s Hospital, UCSF. Before joining UCSF in 2011, she was the Director of Neonatal Neurology and Neurophysiology at the Bambino Gesú Children’s Hospital and Research Institute in Rome, Italy. Dr. Cilio obtained her medical degree at the University of Rome, completed her training in Pediatric Neurology at the University of Rome, and the University of Louvain, and completed her fellowship in Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at the Bambino Gesú Children’s Hospital.

She earned her PhD at Harvard Medical School working in Dr. Gregory Holmes’s lab on the consequences of seizures in the developing brain. Dr. Cilio was awarded with the UCSF Presidential Chair award in 2011. Her research focus on diagnosis, phenotyping, and treatment of seizures in the neonate and on genetic early-onset epilepsies. Her H-index is 35.
