High grade Vulvar HSIL (VIN) versus Differentiated VIN: clinical, molecular, virological and therapeutic differences
•
Aud. III / IV
Co-organized with ISSVD. Squamous preneoplastic lesions of the vulva is characterized by an unusual dual presentation. The 2015 ISSVD terminology of vulvar squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL), divided these lesions into High grade SIL of the vulva (vulvar HSIL, VIN usual type) and Differentiated-type VIN (DVIN). Although a few clinicians fail to realize the difference between them, vulvar HSIL is caused by high-risk human papilloma virus infection, usually in young women, while DVIN occurs in older women with lichen sclerosus or lichen simplex chronicus, and carries a higher rate of malignant transformation. The new terminology, the distinct clinical presentation of both lesions, how the HPV infection may be controlled, prevented or treated, will be discussed in this session, which is organized with the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD).
