More than 900 participants !

The IFHTSE and A3TS congress gathered 400 participants including 120 speakers.
The CIP / MIATEC (SFV) congress gathered 140 people.
The SVTM show brought together nearly 130 exhibiting companies and more than 250 visitors.

400 delegates !

After Venice in 2015, Savannah in 2016 (USA), the 24th congress took place in NICE (France) and hosted over 350 participants, half from more than 30 countries, with more than 85 contributions of 30 nationalities occurring in two parallel sessions and a session of 30 posters.

A conference day focused on surface treatments was also held on Wednesday, June 28 in parallel.

This was a unique opportunity for the entire heat treatment community to meet in a common and friendly place, so that : universities, engineers, technicians, researchers, manufacturers, suppliers, equipment manufacturers, can listen, exchange, communicate on latest progress in the field.

The scientific program began with four keynote lectures, distinct and high-level presentations.

They focused in the first place on the state of the art of the evolution of materials and treatments applied to aircraft landing gear, then continued on the criteria of choice of the many materials used to meet the constraints of the automotive sector. The fine methods of characterization of materials have not been forgotten by hosting a specialist in ion beam methods for measuring residual stresses at the microscopic scale. Then, the last plenary conference focused on a broad overview of thermochemical treatments for hardening surfaces of the latest generations.

The program then took the form of two parallel lecture sessions throughout the two and a half day conference.

The themes of the presentations covered all aspects of metallic materials, their thermal and thermochemical treatment, while integrating fundamental aspects such as the modeling of phase transformation mechanisms, induction quenching of complex parts, quenching with gas and liquid medium or other and also more applied aspects which will deal with surface hardening treatments of steels , sintered, aluminum and titanium made by various processes, nitriding, carburizing, laser, induction, integrating cryogenic treatments. The tribological PVD coatings as well as the process implementation aspects were presented.

An assignment was dedicated to 3D and complex parts processing from additive manufacturing. The means of control of the processes were numerous and concerned the nitriding, the carbonitriding, the level of deformation of the treated parts, the tempering by induction and the low pressure carburizing by a new approach of the big data type. Specific surface hardening treatments for stainless steels without loss of corrosion resistance have also been the subject of numerous scientific and application presentations.

A3TS Innovation Prize

The A3TS INNOVATION PRIZE was awarded to OERLIKON BALZERS for its new MoN-based coatings, an alternative for DLC coatings in heavily loaded tribological applications. Amorphous carbon (DLC) coatings have been used for many years by the automotive industry in heavily solicited tribological contacts. However, these deposits suffer from a thermal stability sometimes too low (~ 300 ° C, depending on conditions) which limits their application in “down-sized” engines. This is why Oerlikon Balzers has developed a coating based on a molybdenum nitride (Balifor M®).

The latter shows a high thermal stability of 450 °C, see 800 °C with some modifications, and low friction coefficients lubricated and comparable to the DLC associated with a very good compatibility with the additives.

The properties of these coatings as well as their multilayer architecture can be easily adapted to the targeted applications. A MoN-based coating is already produced by Oerlikon Balzers in large series on piston shafts for a high-power five-cylinder engine for a German OEM. Other applications such as pawls are currently under investigation.

THE A3TS EVENING

The evening took place in the prestigious areas of the PALACE OF THE MEDITERRANEAN - HYATT REGENCY on the “Promenade des Anglais” in NICE with more than 350 guests ... international atmosphere ... musical!
